Making money off the internet is as easy as creating a blog. Well, not exactly. Anyone can blog online with the free tools available on the internet, but generating income through it requires time and effort. Based on statistics, 6.7 million blog on blogging sites, while 12 million others blog through social networks, all of which make up the competition. From the figures alone, it is easy to see why blogging can be hard work.
But there is nothing that good Search Engine Optimization (SEO) can do for you. It is all about how to use it right and maximize its tools and potentials. How do you do this, exactly?
Create an SEO-friendly website
You’ve probably heard of web designers talking about website usability and ensuring great user experience. While a user-friendly website is a must, you must not overlook its friendly ties to search engines. For SEO to work to your advantage, search engines must be able to easily interpret your website so that they can efficiently crawl and index the content. Your site must be structured correctly, so its content will rank well. There should be no HTML or CSS errors, and header tags must be used correctly.
Use SEO plugins
WordPress and search engine plugins are all over the internet, most of which are free. Use them to optimize your site’s page titles and meta descriptions. The All in One SEO Pack, for example, provides you with everything you need to maximize blog traffic, including dynamic keywords and meta tag generation, and automatic title optimization.
Practice SEO-friendly pagination
Endless scrolling is impractical and is likely to annoy readers and visitors. So, rather than place all your blog post on a single page, put them in separate pages and organize them properly. But good pagination, however, has a lower number of clicks yet maximizes crawl depth of search engines. To illustrate use multiple numbered hyperlinks (e.g. Page 1, 2, 3, etc.) instead of a single link (e.g. Older Entries) that leads to more clicks.
Add related posts
It is vital that your blog content is easy to find by both users and bots. Apart from good pagination, you should also add a list of related articles at the end of every blog post. Doing so not only increases page views from viewers, what with them being served with other posts that they might be interested in, but also the flow link equity and PageRank circulation across your blog. Related posts also serve as an internal linking mechanism, especially if keywords are used in the anchor text.
Use categories properly
Remember proper organization of posts? This is easily achieved when content is classified into different categories. The practice also results in easy archiving of topically themed pages, increasing organic search efforts in the process. Like most things, however, too many categories can have an adverse effect. So limit the number of categories up to 10 for small to medium-sized blogs. Add 5 more if absolutely necessary. This way, you can avoid thin pages of content. It is also important that only one category is assigned per post to avoid duplicate content issues.
There are plenty of other ways to maximize SEO for your blog. Used properly, they can increase traffic to your website, resulting in more views and better online visibility. When this happens, you are guaranteed to make money, especially when you venture into affiliate marketing. After all, 61% of US consumers buy stuff based on a blog post, which would definitely work to your advantage.
